Landscape art depicts scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers and forests. Sky is almost always included in the landscape painting, and weather is a facet of the composition.
Early in the 15th century landscape painting was established as an art genre in Europe, as a setting for human activity, often a religious subject, such as the themes of the Rest on the Flight into Egypt, the Journey of the Magi, or Saint Jerome in the Desert.
Best known for his large, detailed landscapes of the American West was Albert Bierstadt 1830 - 1902, an american landscape painter, who was part of the Hudson River School, not an institution but rather an informal group of like-minded painters. The Hudson River School style involved carefully detailed oil paintings with romantic, almost glowing lighting, sometimes called luminism. In this catalog you will find lots of Hudson River School paintings, higly admired by the public .
